The Bad-Tempered Barracuda

If there’s another name that instills fear and respect in the sea as much as the great white shark does, the barracuda is certainly one of them. Recognized for its violent behavior, the barracuda is a ray-finned fish dwelling in the world’s tropical and subtropical oceans, typically spending its time near coral reefs and seagrass.

Barracudas bear a resemblance to snakes in regards to their appearance and their fang-like teeth are very similar to those of the ferocious piranha. Fascinatingly, each tooth in a barracuda’s mouth is a different size. The fish is also known for its underbite. Certain barracudas can reach as long as five feet in length.

Their appearance aside, barracudas are infamous for their aggressive behavior. They are sneaky predators, usually surprising prey before chasing them with short speed bursts. Adult barracudas are solitary fish while younger ones congregate. Due to their aggressiveness, barracuda have been known to take on larger prey by ripping off pieces of flesh.
