We have been having some cold weather down here in South Florida! Last weekend, Miami Beach saw it’s coldest weather in a decade! Colder temperatures bring a whole new batch of fish into the south Florida waters. Don’t let the cooler temps keep you off the water. This is the perfect time to go fishing! Cold fronts are one of the best weather-related events that can happen for deep sea fishing in Miami Beach, and the cooler temps always bring on the sailfish! We do catch sailfish year-round in Miami Beach, but we do reel more in during the colder months.
Sailfish are the one of the most sought after gamefish in South Florida, and with good reason. Not only are sailfish plentiful here, but they are acrobatic and beautiful. Although sailfish can be caught year round, our typical sailfish season starts in November and ends in May. People come from all around the world to Miami Beach during the winter months to try to capture one of these beautiful species.
Although our winters in South Florida are a bit warmer than most places, we do still get some cooler weather during the winter months. As winter approaches, sailfish will migrate south following schools of bait. Fishing for sailfish after a cold front moves through Miami Beach in January through March can be amazing! This is usually considered the best time of year for sailfish fishing. Double digit strikes and often double digit releases of sailfish in one day are not uncommon if the conditions are right. This is why Miami Beach and all of South Florida are considered one of the world’s top destinations for catching sailfish.
